Shipping and Returns

Currently we are only shipping within the United States. We use USPS or UPS to always find the best value for our customers. Shipping takes approximately 3-5 days to addresses within the continental U.S.

Processing time: As a small business that processes our own shipping, we strive to ship all packages within three business days. There may be times when shipping will be halted or delayed while our small staff is on holiday (you will always be notified before you place your order if this is the case).

Returns: As a small business of small-batch food items, we do not offer returns. If, however, your item should arrive damaged, you may reach out to us for a solution via orders@origamifoods.net.

My Macha Chili Crisp (MCC) gets thick and solidifies in the refrigerator. Has it gone bad?

Nope! It’s made with 100% olive oil and this beautiful oil will thicken when cold. It’s a good thing - no cheap filler oils used here. Just let it warm up at room temperature for a few minutes or scoop onto your warm food and watch it melt. Delicious!

Some jars have more or less of the chili bits in the jar. What’s going on?

Your MCC is a small batch clean sauce. There are many variables: how fine the mixture is, how dry the chilis were before they went into the oil, and the natural variables in hand mixing and bottling every jar with love. We strive for consistency, but real small-batch production of such a special sauce has unique characteristics. This is one of them.

I don’t know what I can do with my MCC besides put it on avocado toast. What do I do with it?

We love avocado toast too but MCC offers loads more versatility! You can use the oil by itself for frying, marinate your meat or tofu, drizzle it on rice, eggs, pizza, hotdogs, etc. Dress up your frozen burrito or pizza. Mix it with mayo for fries or a sandwich. Add a dollop to your noodles (Italian or Asian). Basically, if you eat it, make it better with MCC. Our favorites include topping off your hummus, adding to macaroni and cheese, slathering dumplings, or with a good steak and guacamole.

Make a salad dressing with the bits that are left! Add some lemon or lime juice, a little more oil as needed and shake it up for your veggies and salads. Check out some of our favorite ways to pour on the crisp here.

What’s Macha? Is it made from that Japanese green tea?

We love a nice cup of Matcha green tea, but this is something entirely different. Salsa Macha is a Mexican style Chili Crisp. The word macha has several origin stories - Machacar in Spanish translates to crush. Others say it’s a feminine form of Macho.

Macha Chili Crisp or Salsa Macha originated in Orizable, Veracruz, Mexico. Our Macha Chili Crisp pays homage to recipes from Mexico, but adds our own clean umami seasonings and careful blend of different dried chilis for a full mouth flavor explosion!

Why are some jars spicier or milder than others?

Each small batch is made from seasonal ingredients.  Just like any produce, the final flavor, heat, or sweetness will depend on the weather and growing season. If you have ever purchased fresh jalapeños or had a jalapeño popper, you know that some have a much bigger kick than others.

How ‘Hot’ is ‘Extra Hot?

What’s hot? That’s so subjective. We like to say this is heat with a purpose, it’s not novelty hot. It’s hot enough that you are looking forward to the next bite but not so hot that you lose all the wonderful light smoked chili and the complexity of the four other chilies in the recipe. A little goes a long way for some people and a few fans eat a spoonful or two just because it’s so fantastic. The texture and flavor are just that good. We have a lot of people who like to blend Extra Hot and Original to hit the perfect note for their palate.

The Extra Hot is too hot for me and the Original is too mild for my partner. Do you plan on making a Medium?

We have some friends and family who feel the same way. We don’t plan on a third product at this time. Our Macha Chili Crisp isn’t just the same product with different heat levels; the flavor is a little different as well. The Original has a very light smoked chili and a vegetal flavor — almost like a sun dried tomato — and the Extra Hot does pack some heat, but also a well rounded flavor that’s sure to please. There is no novelty heat level here. We have a lot of people who like to blend the two to hit the perfect note for their palate.

There are no nuts in our MCC. We intentionally chose pumpkin seeds for flavor, nutrition, and texture while being allergen free. Sesame is the only common allergen in our crisp.

Does Macha Chili Crisp contain nuts or other allergens?

I’m vegan? Gluten-free? Keto? Can I eat this?

Yes! There is nothing in this jar that didn’t grow out of the ground. It contains no honey (or other sugars for that matter). It’s also Keto-friendly with the 100% olive oil, sesame, and pumpkin seeds.  We don’t certify as Gluten-free for dietary or medical needs, but there are no ingredients containing gluten in our MCC.
